HONOLULU — A 32-year-old driver suspected of striking three pedestrians in Haleiwa has been taken into custody.

HONOLULU — A 32-year-old driver suspected of striking three pedestrians in Haleiwa has been taken into custody.

Hawaii News Now reports the driver was held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop to render aid.

Honolulu police say the three pedestrians were struck Sunday afternoon on the North Shore.

A man and two women at about 3 p.m. were walking near Laniakea Beach when they were hit. The driver was found a short time later.

Lifeguards assisted the pedestrians until paramedics arrived.

The 35-year-old man was transported in serious condition to a hospital. A woman in her 30s and a woman in her 50s also were seriously injured.
